Google was founded in 1998 as a search engine provider, a field in which it quickly became the dominant leader. Since Google began in 1998 they have continued to branch out and now offer some of the most recognized online products in the world, such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Voice and Google Maps.
Nearly all of its services are free and funded primarily through Google’s successful AdWords and AdSense advertising platforms. In the mobile arena Google is known for the popular Android operating system, its Nexus line of phones and tablets, and its recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility. Google has also been making a splash with its cloud-based Chrome OS for laptops, and is known for pushing more experimental products such as its Google Glass wearable computer, as well as ‘moonshots’ like self-driving cars and the balloon-based Internet infrastructure, Project Loon.
